The residential is an opportunity to expand discussion around cultural nationalism, remoteness and peripheries over 3 days amongst a small group of curators from across Scotland.
The packed programme for Saturday and Sunday includes workshops, a reading group and screenings of artists’ works in presentations led by Rael Artel, an independent curator based in the forests of Estonia www.publicpreparation.org and Mother Tongue a research-led curatorial project, initiated in 2009 by Tiffany Boyle & Jessica Carden www.mothertongue.se/index.php/ There will also be a facilitated session discussing common grounds for future projects or events that explore further the context of the referendum for Scottish independence and the Commonwealth Games in 2014.
On Friday we meet at Deveron Arts for a tour of the town collection and dinner with Brazilian artists in residence. On Sunday we travel from SSW to HICA south of Inverness to view the Doug Fishbone exhibition and discuss HICA’s programming from a remote farmhouse.
