Curatorial development in Scotland

Tonia Lu

Tonia is a freelance curator and writer from China currently based in Glasgow. Tonia has worked on a variety of projects both in Scotland and China. In 2008, she was Exhibition Curatorial Assistant (Internship) for the SHOUT exhibition at the Gallery of Modern Art, Glasgow. In 2009 Tonia was Project Intern then Freelance Project Assistant at Deveron Arts, Huntly, Aberdeenshire, and then GI Project Assistant at Glasgow Sculpture Studios in 2010. She has worked as the Marketing Officer at Ricefield Arts & Cultural Centre, Glasgow, and as Scottish Arts Council funded Trainee Curator at Fife Contemporary Art & Craft, St. Andrews, Fife.

Tonia is particularly interested in socially engaged projects, political projects and the relationship between gallery and public space. She’s currently working on various audience development and engagement projects for organisations and individual artists. Tonia is undertaking a PhD at the University of Glasgow and researching arts policy in rural Scotland. Since 2010 Tonia has been also been a columnist for the monthly journal Now Citizen’s Guide (Gongmin Daokan), Chongqing, China, writing on art & social politics in the UK.
