James is an artist whose practice is informed by his time spent as a curator. He is interested in the structures that determine how objects are circulated, and whether an object’s behaviour can be programmed in such a way to determine how it is circulated. When the things I make become publicly visible, it is not because they are finished, it is because they have reached a point where they are capable of proposing new futures for themselves – they never see the exhibition as their final resting place, but rather a critical mid-point where their movement between situations/spaces is both defined and made possible.
The Salford Restoration Office was a curatorial and educational agency established by James Hutchinson and Lesley Young in 2006, to explore and critique the visual arts infrastructure of Manchester. http://www.thesalfordrestorationoffice.org/About.html
