This discussion will focus on the question of the development of cultural nationalism within contemporary art.
The discussion will be lead by Annie Fletcher focussing on Be[com]ing Dutch a 2 year project developed at the Van Abbemuseum that addressed questions of cultural identity and normative ‘national’ values and whether art can offer alternative ways of thinking about how we can live together.
Selected texts will be distributed in the lead up to the event beginning with the summary here in the blog
This is the first part of a two part programme of discussions on cultural nationalism. It will be followed by the Framework Residential taking place at Scottish Sculpture Workshop, H-I-C-A and Deveron Arts 1-3 June 2012. We prefer that if you are interested in attending this event that you make a commitment to attend the second event also.
Annie will be talking at the Contemporary Art Society’s ‘Curating and Collections’ seminar the following day at the Burrell Collection as part of the programme at Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art. Information here.
